Benefits of Artificial Christmas Trees

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Why an artificial tree makes so much sense – Today there are nearly three times as many artificial trees sold than real trees!  Some of the reasons so many people have embraced the lifelike trees are…

-Reduced risk of fire

-Less expensive per year

-No need to water

-Easier to put up and take down

-Ability to leave tree up longer

-Little or no clean up

-Non-Allergenic

-No “bad side” or crooked trunk

-And the main reason…most come with commercial grade lights professionally installed.

Share your favorite Holiday recipes

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Sometimes the best part of Thanksgiving is the side dishes.  Share your recipes right here on our blog.  Here are some unique and easy turkey day recipes from some of our holiday shoppers.

Glazed Squash - Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Brush two baking sheets with olive oil, lay 3 halved, seeded, and sliced acorn squashes on baking sheets.  Seasonal with salt and pepper.  Sprinkle 1/2 cup brown sugar evenly over squash pieces. Roast for about 20 minuets or until tender.

Mashed Sweet Potatoes - Peel, cube, and boil eight large sweet potatoes until tender.  Drain and return to saucepan. Meanwhile in a small saucepan bring one cup of half and half, one stick of butter, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar to a simmer.  Stir to combine, remove from heat and add to potatoes. Mash until smooth and add salt and pepper to taste.

Pumpkin Pecorino Gratin - Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Combine 1/2 cup grated pecorino romano cheese and one cup of bread crumbs.  Season with salt and pepper. Spoon four cups pumpkin puree into a one quart baking dish.  Sprinkle with crumb mixture and top with three tablespoons of butter cut into small pieces.  Bake 15 to 20 minutes until crumbs are browned.

Entertaining Tips – Throw a Green Party

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

This holiday season try these tips to cut waste and save energy

Lighting – The best light is natural light so throw your party midday. For evening parties light up the room with soy candles, or if more light is needed use fluorescent bulbs which will leave the smallest carbon footprint possible.

Invite – Use online evites instead of paper invitations. This eliminates waste,  keeps track of who’s coming, and will save money on stamps.

Fresh Fare – Buying locally makes a global impact. When you support local farmers you cut down on energy needed for shipping and cut waste from packaging. Plus local markets equals fresher food.

Christmas Wonderland at Seasonal World is officialy open. Stop in today and check out our awesome selection.
